Convert data between the various GPS applications and devices.
Like in many kinds of programs, the data that is obtained over Internet over Internet for each device and kind of software aren't compatible between one another. This can be a problem due to the popularity of devices like the different GPS, like
TomTom or
Garmin, because the maps, waypoints and other data they include can only be read by the devices developed by that company. That is why
GPSBabel has been developed, an application that will allow us to
change the format of any GPS device file.
How
GPSBabel works is very simple, so simple that it can even be used in command
console mode (even though it does have a
GUI), and what it does basically is
convert the files from the format of one GPS to the format of another one. It recognizes quite a lot of different formats, like:
PDB, DAT, WPR, GPL, ANR, G7T, PCX, GPI, XML, ASC, OV2... The formats of the most popular GPS can be transcoded between one another without any problem.
Thanks to GPSBable we will be able to convert a
TomTom map with waypoint to the
Garmin format easily, and if we like to create the
routes with Google Maps, we will also be able to import the corresponding
XML. It practically supports all the formats!
